Tiffany has been working on a short documentary film that examines the way people experience and respond to grief, in all of its unique forms.

While she is still early in her career, a short film that she made in response to the Atlanta spa shootings has been selected to screen at the Seattle Asian American Film Festival in 2022. The film also received an Honorable Mention by the Local Shortiez Film Festival and was presented in a show organized by POV & Asian Mental Health Project. Tiffany’s photography has been exhibited at The International Center of Photography, Photographic Center Northwest, and Pioneer Works.

Exhausted

Festivals & Exhibitions: Seattle Asian American Film Festival - Official Selection 2022 Local Shortiez Film Festival - Honorable Mention 2021 POV & Asian Mental Health Project - About Love Art Show 2021

This short film shines a light on the exhaustion, grief, and trauma that Asian Americans have collectively experienced for years and decades while living in this country. I felt the need to document how beaten down I looked and felt the evening of March 16th when I learned about the Atlanta spa shootings. I didn’t know that I would make a video project out of the footage at the time. I just knew that I needed to capture the emotions I felt in that moment.

Unattended

In learning about “actuality” films, I was tasked with shooting a minute long event in the same style.

Eyewitness: Exchange

A short video I filmed as a part of an “eyewitness”, observational exercise. It was challenging to edit the footage down to just three minutes. I was instructed to focus on how I might capture time passing, people, interactions, and more.

FreeBird.mp3

A fun and experimental short I put together to visualize what happened to Lucky, the pet parakeet. I chose to make this using only found footage.

Devices Off Short

This short was made in collaboration with classmates taking the Filmmaking Fundamentals course in Winter 2019 at the Northwest Film Forum. The story is written as an homage to David Lynch. We helped with all stages of production, from casting to filming and sharing rough cuts. I got experience working on set as a DP, Gaffer, and Grip. This is my rough cut of the short edited in Premiere Pro.

Lines

I made this quick animation after learning about trim paths in After Effects. I also started experimenting with Zig Zag, Twist, and Dashes. I’m hoping to do more of these mini exercises in quarantine. The animation is set to a song by Chrome Sparks.

Abstract Scratch

This quick and fun project was made in collaboration with adults and children at a Cameraless Animation workshop hosted by the Northwest Film Forum. Each participant was given a long strip of film to scratch and draw over.

All of our film strips got combined into one at the very end. We rolled it through a camera and projected the end result on a wall for everyone to enjoy. You can read more about this type of animation here.

The Planetarium

This animated text project was created in After Effects in my third year of studying Communication Design. The dialogue is taken from a favorite scene of the show, “Bojack Horseman”.

Note: Video contains bright colored flash sequences.

Faces of Design

After seeing AIGA’s Design Census, our team decided to send our own survey to various School of Design alums. We asked them to share stories about how their education at Carnegie Mellon impacted their professional careers.

Each alum is represented by a cube. The different faces link to a question from the survey. Guests are invited to place cubes on the spotlight area to see the responses. Cubes with related answers light up if connections exist. This encourages guests to learn about the unexpected patterns that emerged.

Bye Don

I challenged myself to film and edit a short video about the 2020 election. The night before Election Day, I walked around the neighborhood asking people to share their hopes and predictions. Once news broke about Biden’s win, I went back out to capture the parades, music, and celebrations.
